LIFE WITH GRANT LEE PHILLIPS!!
May. 7th, 2002 10:02 amHERE`S MY REVIEW OF GRANT L. PHILLIPS SHOW:::::
FUCKING AMAZING!
Ok, now that I`ve said that I just want you to know how happy and grateful I am that I discovered his music... thanks Karla for inviting me to the concert!
We went to Shepherd`s Bush, in the West side of London. We got seats on the first floor, overlooking the stage. Where we sat, we could lean on the railing (covered with a red suede cloth) and just soak in the show. He played a 12-string guitar, accompanied by a violonist. Sometimes he would play the piano and the harmonica, and even a banjo for one song. Despite the lack of musicians, he filled up the house with sound... it also helped that Karla and I had drunk a good amount of beer and vodka and tonics!!!
Now here comes the bizarre part::::
Earlier that day, we had lunch in a cafe at Waterloo station. David Bowie came on the radio and we started talking about him, about how I had introduced Karla to his music. They were playing "Ashes to Ashes"...
Would you believe that Grant Lee played that song for his encore?!?!?!
I looked at Karla and said we were meant to be there that night. She has Grant Lee Buffalo`s first two albums with her and she is going to burn them for me...
ahh... I only wish Kevin had come as well. I told him all about the concert and we promised to try see more live music in London...
