New Generation
Nov. 5th, 2008 07:24 amI'm very excited for you, America! I turned on the news and saw all those scenes of jubilation across the world. It's as spine-tingling as the commentators say.
For the past six years, there's been this growing idea that the world now hates America, that Americans aren't welcome anywhere anymore. It is a particularly favourite story with the British press. But what this election has shown, in particular the reaction to Obama being elected, is that people do care about America deep down, wish the very best for it. People want to be inspired by America, and want to feel good by its governants, by its policies, by the direction it takes in the world. When America is ugly, well, we know what that's like by looking back 8 years... now we are ready for America the beautiful again.
I'm very hopeful. The smart outwitted the stupid. The sensible outnumbered the irrational. And now there's a new generation in power.
