* When I heard a fuel-laden jeep had slammed into Glasgow airport with the intention of blowing up innocent passengers, my first thought was "terrorism". My second thought was "maybe they were aiming for the EasyJet counter".

* I borrowed a compilation of Bukowski's poems from the library on Saturday. I found a cinema ticket stub inside the book, for the movie Brokeback Mountain. The person went to see it at Cineworld Cinema, on the 10th of January 2006 (the ticket stub survived next to Bukowski's poems for one year and five months). They saw the movie at 14:45 and paid £5.80 (matinee price - was he/she a student? an impoverished poet?) The person paid in cash. The ticket stub is now glued to my paper journal.

* I wonder if this boy knows how popular he is on YouTube. He must be an adult by now (probably working in I.T.)

See, this is the main reason why I don't go to the cinema very often. I refuse to buy into the crackpot idea that £5.80 is the student price to see a movie...on a Tuesday, too. [Yeah, I checked.] For £5.80 you can buy two pints in my bar, which is priced acceptably for absolutely no one, including people with handfuls of cash and people from London. Cinemas take the piss mercilessly.

There are a few cinemas near me that are quite cheap: 4 quid at the Mile End Genesis and 6 quid at the Rich Mix, any time or day. that's an alright deal if you are seeing something Friday night, for example.

But I do agree with you that cinema tickets should be cheaper.

Hell, I'm not financial guru, but, with how much shit hollywood's been churning out for the past several years, I'm hard pressed to even pay $2(US) at the second run theatre, so, i'd say the matinee price is probably a bargain. Then again, i've also heard that the english gov't subsidises live theatre, thereby, making a night out at the theatre a rather cheap thing. So, if I had my druthers, (and lived on the sceptered isle) i'd opt for the theatre.

The National Theatre, here in London, has tickets for 10 pounds. It's very good value for money.
