A train derailed between Mile End station and Bethnal Green.

I was on the Bethnal Green station when the next departing train had its lights turned off and all passengers were asked to leave. An announcement was made that an "incident" had happened between Mile End and Bethnal Green.

I took the Eastbound Central line back to Mile End so I could then switch to the District Line. One of the trains was empty, with its lights turned off, and policemen were about to enter the tunnel. I thought an attack had taken place in the tunnel-stuck train (not necessarily of the terrorist kind).

I might have been in that train if I'd decided to walk to Mile End (my usual routine) instead of taking the bus to Bethnal Green.

Edit: Now they think something was placed on the tracks to derail the train... hmmmmm.

Fuck. As it was, this morning Craig and I were trapped in a tunnel for about 20 minutes thanks to "trains reversing from Victoria", and that was scary enough.

I hate being stuck in trains during rush hour. The anxiety is contagious and the heat/stinkiness unbearable.

Definitely. When I managed to get off the train at Kings Cross, there were people (okay, women) crying and fainting on the platform - and this wasn't even on the bloody Central Line where the actual terrifying thing happened.

Bit scared now, actually.

I hope it was just teenagers fooling around (as my boss suggested.) I was once on a train that got stopped at Whitechapel because kids were throwing stuff at it, so maybe this is a variant.

Glad you weren't on it, when Marcus emailed me the bbc story I asked which line you got to work and was worried as you hadn't posted!

If I'm running late, I take the Central line then switch to the Waterloo & City at Bank. When I have more time, I like the District line because I can get a seat and read (plus, there's always that off-chance I can stalk Marcus. ;-P)

Today, I was feeling lazy and decided to take the Number 8 to Bethnal Green instead of walking to Mile End. Maybe I should play the Lotto?

Hell yeah!

We walked up Roman Road from our end of bow right down to bethnal green at the weekend, i love the bethnal green end of it with all the cool shops. Some of the flats I've looked at are around Bethnal Green too (there's one i love right by where we currently live but if I dont get it I'm looking at other options).

You must must come visit sometime! Or go for lunch or coffee. Found a really really nice cafe bar at Bow Wharf, just up Grove Road.

Actually, Kevin and I recently went to a coffee shop on Columbia road, which you mentioned some time ago on your journal. It's a really funky place for a coffee date. ;-)

I think it has to do with the Shoreditch crowd expanding east. I'm just waiting for the day when a Starbucks opens on Roman Road, followed by Gap.

I took this train everyday when was in London, from Leytonstone to Holborn changing to the Picadilly Line. It happens in the morning?
I miss the "Mind the Gap" message. LOL

That's scary. Recently I was on the tube and the train stopped twice in between stations. It was packed and everyone was really hot and sweaty and no one knew what was going on.

Since then I've been taking the bus. It's cheaper and slightly less risky... usually more comfortable too, and I get to perv at all the people outside as well as inside.

Public transportation in London is scary. Since the attacks it feels like every time I board a train or bus I'm silently acknowledging that there's a possibility of a bomb on there.

If the bus didn't take forever and a day to get here, I'd use it as well.

As soon as I saw this on BBC news I thought of you, Ollie!

I'm so glad you're okay! *hugs*

man, and i just watched V last night.

I'm sorry that this is closer to you than would be comfortable for most.

i still don't believe that someone would derail a train. If it were a terrorist, creating mischief of that kind is stupid. unless it was a little kid playing a prank, or a cover up for a sleeping engineer at the controls.

It seems like it was human error. I'm just glad it wasn't too serious.
