What's everyone's opinion on this year's The X Factor? This is the first time I watch this show, and I'm completely hooked. I know it's trash and bad for my brain cells, but I can't help myself!

It's had its fair share of surprises, what with eye-candy boyband Futureproof being unfairly kicked out a few weeks ago, then no-hopers Hope beating my favourite, Beverley, last week, - not to mention the teenage girl disqualified for "happy slapping" someone.

The X Factor is really a cautionary tale about the music world, isn't it? The jugdes manage the feat of sounding more rude than the foulest-mouthed Big Brother contestant. It's no surprise that Girls Aloud fired Louis Walsh as their manager a few years ago. Last Saturday, Louis sent Dannii Minogue crying to [livejournal.com profile] theladiesloos after he called her a tuneless, hitless wonder in front of millions. Maybe he was bitter because Simon Cowell claimed earlier he'd had hair transplant. And those were just the mild bitchy comments.

This is what I think of the last four contestants:

Rhidian: The Riddler. I can see why everyone thinks he's going to win, but I personally can't stand his style of singing. Mixing opera and pop is just as wrong as, say, the Macarena. However, with his android looks and cold, rugby-player eyes, he'd be an impressive star if he were given covers of Gary Numan's "Cars" or Depeche Mode's "Master and Servant" to sing, for example. Those X Factor judges clearly know nothing about music.

Nikki: I hope she doesn't go back to working as a school kitchen matron when the contest is over. She'll never be a pop star, but she could make a decent living from singing in small events, cruise ships and casinos.

Same Difference: The 21st Century Carpenters. Or the poster kids for an as-yet-unreleased anti-depressant. Or the happiest Christians you'll ever meet. Or a cynical attempt by an underground religious sect to brainwash the country's children. Whatever they are, I'm so sure the brother is gay. He better keep his paws off...

Leon: If I was a pre-pubescent teeny bopper, I'd also spend my weekly allowance keeping him in the competition. My thumbs would be sore from all that late-night voting. Sharon Osbourne is right: he is soooo adorable. He neatly fits into my theory about Scottish men. Now that Beverley is gone, I want him to win.

Rhidian sounds exactly the same all the time and he's such a one-trick pony (at least he has a trick, though, which Leon SO DOESN'T). Is it really that novel? He just does lots of vibrato (or whatever the voice equivalent is). Woo.

Same Difference are so annoying but at least they look happy.

I think you are spot on about Nikki. I can totally see her on a cruise ship.

Leon irritates me so much. "Look how soleful I am!" Doleful more like, he's so bovine!

I guess you don't like any of them? Did you have a favourite voted out? :-)

No, I get to see Dannii every week so it's all good :P

Leon is definitely most likely to win at this point. Hope were terrible, like some karaoke version of Girls Aloud, Nikki is talented but doesn't have the look of a pop star and Rhidian is a bit too freaky.

I find the guy from Same Difference really cute... in fact, I have a little crush on him. I wish he was a solo act because then I'd vote for him. His sister put a message out on Heatworld.com asking female fans to send in photos and descriptions of themselves so she can find a girlfriend for him. Yeah, I think that's called denial. I just wish they weren't so strangely incestuous and trapped in the 90s since that is ultimately going to cost them victory. Here's hoping some producer decides to give the guy a recording contract.

Honestly, I think Leona is the only one to ever really make it from the X factor. Most of them are already forgotten before they even release their album and, when they do, everyone realises that they're just glorified lounge singers. Leona made it because she looks like a pop star and has a great voice.

As for Louis Walsh's comments to Dannii... what a jerk! She's always been really sweet in that show and is often in tears after everyone's performance. Louis has become bitchier than Simon this year, which is really something.

I think you're confusing names here; they did sing a Spice Girls cover... ;-)

I thought at first all the bitchiness was panto, but I guess not! Dannii has tried to fight back, but her efforts are limp against such a Mega Bitch as Louis. Also, I have a sneaky suspicion she's in love with Rhydian...

I have to say that she does seem to like him quite a lot. I just watched the audition video for Same Difference and couldn't believe that she said 'no' to them, even if she was right. She said that they wouldn't be able to win it without having to change and that they were brilliant as they were so they should carry on that way instead.

She turned on the waterworks two weeks ago, and said she felt as if Rhydian was singing just for her...

Yup, I remember.

After reading your friends comments about him, she's just begging to get a stalker.

I went to music college with Rhidian. He was an idiot then too. Dated one of my friends and got really obsessive after about a week. I think there are various hate groups on Facebook set up by my ex-fellow students.

Spill the goss!!!

Was it a male or female friend of yours he dated? Did he stand outside his/her home for ours, dressed as the Phantom of the Opera?

Female, sadly. Nothing so interesting. He was just a bit odd I think. He stalked her for a while after she told him no. I can't remember the exact details to be honest. I know, I'm rubbish.

Oh I like Niki! I really feel what she's singing, and I liek how she makes each song her own a bit, her own emphasis and timings, rather than just parrot singing. Beverly was a very close second to her for me, and it was a fucking crime that Bev is out. Sharon should be ashamed of herself for not standing up and voting Hope off.

I couldn't believe the bitchiness this week. Sometimes I wish the judges would remember that while they'll still have a career (of sorts) after this show, they're playing with the dreams of people when they use them as pawns to slag off each other. Dannii saying you should vote for Same Difference just to piss Louie off? I hate to think anyone might be voting just so their favourite judge wins, or against another judge, rather than on the acts themselves.

Same Difference are just... creepy. They should take a leaf out of The Wiggles book; they'd make millions, and never have to sing love songs to each other ever again. And that can only be a good thing.

Another first-timer, also totally hooked...

Same Difference would be creepier for me if I wasn't so sure the boy is gay (and in denial/the closet). I can't wait for one of the gossip mags to dig out one of his secret one-night stands. Or for him to fall in love with the blonde hottie from Futureshock and have a civil service!

I like Niki too but her choices of songs are so terrible! If she sung something by the Cowboy Junkies, or any artist really that isn't so Heart FM, I'd enjoy her more. I cringed all the way through her "But I'm a Lady" tribute to her father!
