Victoria Park's lake is frozen. Seagulls swoop down on bread crumbs cast by toddlers and skid on the ice; most have congregated in the middle, by the fountain, where they can marvel at their own powers of walking on water. The ducks, coots and swans are nowhere to be seen. The cranes perch on the highest branches, their beaks raised to the sky. A pair of joggers tap their feet on the water's edge, gently cracking the surface. I've got a tall cappuccino and it's a Friday.

Oh, man! I kind of wish that I could see it, I'm kind of glad that I'm not in weather so cold it will do that. It might have snowed here today, according to weather reports, but that has been moved to Monday.

I wish I had a camera phone, or a digi in my bag. Alas, it's in my memory and in my words only.

But they evoke the scene quite vividly!

It just keeps raining here in New York. It is dreadful. Especially when your umbrella falls apart on your way to the subway. I need more wildlife in my life. I did see a rat last night.

Did you have some treats for the rat? I feel like I should carry white bread in my bag in the off chance I run across a swan or a duck. I always feel like I'm letting them down when they open their beaks and I have nothing to offer.

No treats for the rat. I usually have a protein bar in my bag but I ate without putting one back in there. Oops. I think swans should take up residence in subway stations. It would seem magical.

First day in a winter hat, hear all the sounds as from under the pillow. Not sure if I woke up in the morning at all. It is way below zero, and... where is the snow? The world around is grey and silent and somehow sharp-edged. Just got a cranberry tea with cloves and vodka and saw your post and yes, it's a Friday. And it's almost gone.

Cranberry tea would go well with blueberry muffins. :-)

Have a good weekend.

I didn't think that happened anymore, all the people/cars/crap making everything too warm! Frozen ponds and lakes are for pictures in kids' books from 1920 o_0

I wish I'd been there with my ice skates, that's a chance that won't happen again. Dammit :P

Apart from the fact I'd have had to been awake, nevermind out of bed, dressed, and in London by 10 in the morning. geeee-ZUS! XD

It wasn't frozen enough to skate, but who knows what could happen in the coming days? Apparently, temperatures are going to drop so you might have a chance to use your ice skates!
