Tough Guys

I've been coming and going at this recruitment agency for the past 8 years. The last time I registered, three years ago, I had a bit of a run in with the building's security guy (an East London badboy type.) I'd had trouble opening the front door (pulling instead of pushing) and he gave me a bit of contemptuous grief. When I returned this year to temp again, I was a little surprised to see him still working here. I'm sure he didn't recognise me since he sees many people each day.
Funny how things turn out: since I started work here we've become mates! Every time I go past him he's watching the World Cup on his computer, so we talk about the games (he thinks they are all rubbish) and chit chat about this n' that; say good morning and wish each other a good eve.
The other day, a candidate arrived for an Executive interview. Built like a brick house, I think of Lebanese background, he looked very intimidating and serious. He returned the next day for a second interview and I caught him disarmed when my desk's alcohol hand sanitiser sprayed all over his suit jacket. When he came back from cleaning the jacket in the restroom, he started asking me about temping here. Turns out he'd been to Brasil a few times and loved the country. All that steel was just interview nerves I realised - he was the sweetest guy underneath. Was even starting to sense a bit of sugar in him but he left before I could make up my mind.
Yesterday, I went for a run in Victoria Park after work then watched a documentary on The Ramones. It's amazing that guys who couldn't stand each other could stick together for so long for the sake of their vision.
