For anybody visiting London for the first time, I recommend the little secret gem that is Walthamstow. Tucked away in one of London's corners, this gorgeous part of the city usually goes under the radar of most tourists and is the favourite destination of many Londoners during the week and weekends.

Yes, I'm letting you into a secret only known to Londoners!

Walthamstow embodies the charm of the small English village with the sophistication of the big city. There are fine eateries, convenient transportation, friendly residents, gorgeous parks and much more. During the day, you can visit one of the many unique shops that sells all sorts of lovely knick knacks. In the evenings, sip a cocktail in one of the terraced cafes that line Walthamstow's boulevards or stroll through the quaint and lively markets that stay open till the sun rises.

Walthamstow has the postcode E17, which most visitors won't recognise as the name of the famous boyband that came from this part of London in the early 90s. Just like Beatles fans like to visit Abbey Road for photographs, more and more people are now choosing to take their photos in Walthamstow as a homage to East 17's classic album "Walthamstow" from 1993.

Discover London, Discover Walthamstow!

Don't forget the cover of Blur's Parklife.

Walthamstow is for people upgrading from Leyton and downgrading from Stoke Newington. There is a Portuguese cafe though.

I downgraded from Stoke Newington into Queen's Park. Is West Ham a downgrade from Leyton?

Yes. Whereabouts did you used to live in SN?

Bethune Road, by an abandoned Jewish school. It was a big Victorian house with a large back garden. We were about 15 minutes walk south from Church St.
