Go Yoga

I want to get back into yoga. When I first met [livejournal.com profile] wink_martindale, nearly 13 years ago (!!), we used to do this brilliant yoga class at Montreal's downtown YMCA (no sniggering in the back!) that was affordable, complete and uncrowded. We'd probably have carried on here in London if there were any affordable courses. Why is yoga so expensive? Yoga should be like a bottle of water or a cup of rice - it should be cheap and available on every street corner.

I'm a little bit bored of running around Victoria Park and lifting weights at the gym. I'm not pushing myself and I'm not seeing any improvement (i.e. the beer belly is still there.) With yoga, there's that sense of achievement as you master one posture after another. Plus the mindfulness, the peace, the growing strength. It would be a nice counterbalance to a session in the gym once in a while.

I won't lie I used to be an ass and make fun of yoga but as I grow older and the more i learn about it I wouldn't mind one day trying it. I really would love to try Bikram Yoga I mean I would take normal yoga 1st to learn all the stuff I got to but Bikram Yoga really sounds like something i would dig. Hope u find a classcat a good price :)

I think you'd love it!

Funnily enough, I was talking to a colleague yesterday about Bikram - I've never done it myself but wouldn't mind giving it a go. My experience is with the more "traditional" type of yoga that we all know in the west, and which I enjoy. Problem is that classes are so expensive, which doesn't make sense to me.

I like cardio when I do it and it's more efficient time-wise often, but something is so balancing--physically and emotionally--about yoga. Too bad it's so expensive where you are! You can always do a few poses at home?

I thought about doing it in my living room, even giving the Wii Yoga a go, but there's something good about being in a room with a teacher who can correct your poses... my search goes on!

Haha! Yeah I don't think you want to do underwear yoga with The Mad Whistler at the buddhist centre.
